Trivia

    Album

  • This film was inspired by the novel "Mister Johnson" (1939) by Joyce Cary. The novel was set in Nigeria under the British regime and was adapted for India for the film.
  • Much before Arundhati Roy won the 1997 Man Booker Prize for her novel "The God Of Small Things", she played the female lead in this Hindi film. She later married the film's director Pradip Krishen. She went on to act in two more English language films directed by Pradip Krishen, "In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones" (1989) and "Electric Moon" (1992). She also wrote the screenplay for both these films.
  • This film was financed by NFDC after its script won the first prize in a script-writing competition organised by them. The second prize in the competition was won by "Godam" (1984) and the third prize by "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" (1983).[1][2]
  • This was Raghubir Yadav's first significant Hindi film role after his debut in "Aadharshila" (1982). He received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the FIPRESCI Critic's Prize for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival, 1986, for his work in this film.[3]
