Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on the novel "Madame Bovary" by the French author Gustave Flaubert.
  • This film was in the making for many years. The film's director, Ketan Mehta, and heroine, Deepa Sahi, got married in 1988, when the film was in production.[1]
  • A steamy sex scene in this film, involving Shah Rukh Khan and Deepa Sahi, became the talk of the town. An article in the Cine Blitz magazine had reported that the night before this scene was shot, Ketan Mehta had asked Shah Rukh and Deepa to spend a night together at a hotel, so they would be comfortable at the shoot. Shah Rukh believed that a journalist named Keith D'Costa had written the article. The infuriated actor confronted and abused the journalist on multiple occasions. The journalist filed a police complaint against the actor, who was then arrested and later released on bail. A few years later, Shah Rukh apologised to the journalist when he found out that it wasn't him who had written the offending article.[MR24]
  • This was the first Hindi film signed by Shah Rukh Khan. However, the making of this film was delayed and many films Shah Rukh signed later were released before this film. Shah Rukh worked again with director Ketan Shah, and his wife, actress Deepa Sahi, in the film "Oh Darling Yeh Hai India" (1995).[2]

    Song

  • Chhaaya Jaagi - This song was essentially a male solo sung by Hridaynath Mangeshkar with alaaps sung by Asha Bhosle. However, the film's music album wrongly credited the female voice to Lata Mangeshkar.
