Trivia

    Album

  • This film was one of the various sources of inspiration for the superhit film "Sholay" (1975). Both films had a disabled authority figure hiring good-hearted crook(s) to save his village from a gang of dacoits. While Dharmendra was the crook in this film, "Sholay" (1975) had Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan. The villains in these films had similar names - Jabbar Singh in this film played by Vinod Khanna versus the iconic Gabbar Singh in "Sholay" (1975). Interestingly, the authority figure in this film was played by Jayant, the father of Amjad Khan, who played Gabbar Singh in "Sholay" (1975). Both films had the lead characters tossing coins to make important decisions. This film was a big hit when it was released, but over the years it was overshadowed by the cult status achieved by "Sholay" (1975).[1]
  • This film was remade in Telugu as "Manchi Babai" (1978).
  • Encouraged by the success of this film, Raj Khosla went on to make another dacoit film based in the Chambal valley with Vinod Khanna - "Kuchhe Dhaage" (1973). However, "Kuchhe Dhaage" (1973) could not match the success of this film.[2]
  • Mahesh Bhatt, who was an assistant to director Raj Khosla in this film, got acquainted with Vinod Khanna during its making. When Bhatt's first few films as a director failed, it was Vinod Khanna who insisted that he direct the film "Lahu Ke Do Rang" (1978). Producer Bhagwan S.C. signed on Mahesh Bhatt only because he was keen on making a film with Vinod Khanna and the actor had said that he would come on board only if Bhatt directed the film. Mahesh Bhatt and Vinod Khanna's friendship grew stronger during the shooting of "Lahu Ke Do Rang" (1978). The film became a hit and revived Bhatt's struggling career. It was around this time that Bhatt joined Osho Rajneesh's ashram and later introduced Vinod Khanna to it. While Bhatt left the ashram after a couple of years, Vinod Khanna's association with Rajneesh continued for many more years. In fact, he even left Hindi films for a few years to be with Rajneesh when he moved to the US.[3][4]
