This was the debut feature film of the documentary filmmaker Madhureeta Anand. The film was semi-autobiographical - Raima Sen's character was modelled on the director and Arbaaz Khan's on her ex-husband. Anand's real-life daughter Eka Kumari Singh played the role of the daughter of Raima Sen's character in the film. This wasn't originally planned but Anand decided to cast Eka as the daughter in the film when she saw the camaraderie between her and Raima Sen on the film's sets. Anand went on to establish the production house Ekaa Films named after her daughter. Her next Hindi film "Kajarya" (2015) was co-produced by this banner.[1][2]
