Trivia

    Album

  • This film was S.V. Rajendra Singh's remake of his own, controversial Kannada film "Antha" (1981). "Antha" itself was based on a serialised story with the same title written by H.K. Anantha Rao for the Kannada magazine Sudha. While "Antha" had done good business, it had been criticised for the excessive violence shown in it. The censor board had alleged that the makers of the Kannada film had added several scenes depicting violence after certification but the film's producer had denied the allegation. The screening of "Antha" had been stopped in Bangalore but it had continued to be screened in other parts of Karnataka. "Antha" was also remade in Telugu as "Antham Kadidi Aarambam" (1981) and in Tamil as "Thyagi" (1982).[1]
  • This film created a political storm when Ghulam Nabi Azad of the ruling Congress (I) party made a speech in the parliament objecting to the film's depiction of corrupt ministers, IAS officers, and police officers and demanding its ban. Two days after Azad's speech in the parliament, the film was banned. However, its producer quickly approached the courts and managed to get a stay on the government's suspension orders. The courts eventually asked for some changes in the film, including the change in the name of the country the film was set in from Hindustan to Mundustan. This controversy only piqued the audience's interest in the film, which became a blockbuster hit.[2][3]
  • This was director S.V. Rajendra Singh's first Hindi film.
  • Actress Hema Malini, who played the role of a pregnant woman in the film, was actually pregnant when it was shot.
