Trivia

    Album

  • This was the last film written by the team of Salim - Javed. They had split up a few years earlier. "Shakti" (1982) was their last film release when they were still together. "Zamana" (1985) was another film written by them that was released after their split.[1][2]
  • This film featured Amrish Puri in what was perhaps his most iconic role as a villain - Mogambo. A villain of the same name had appeared earlier in the film "Maha Badmaash" (1977).[3]
  • The titular role of this film was initially offered to Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. They turned it down since the idea of playing a hero who would be invisible a considerable amount of screen time did not appeal to them. It was only then that Anil Kapoor was picked to play this role.[MR12]
  • Some key members of the cast and crew of this film - director Shekhar Kapoor, producer Boney Kapoor, actors Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, and writer Javed Akhtar - attempted to re-create the magic of this film by launching "Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja" in 1988. However, "Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja" (1993) was plagued by problems - Shekhar Kapur left the project midway, it was delayed by many years and went over-budget, and eventually flopped at the box office.[4][5]
  • This film was remade in Tamil as "En Rathathin Rathame" (1989) and in Kannada as "Jai Karnataka" (1989).
  • This remains probably the most popular Hindi film based on the "invisible man" concept. It was preceded by a number of films based on this fictional character - "Mr. X" (1938), "Mr. X" (1957) and "Mr. X In Bombay" (1964). "Mr. X" (2015) was another film that had this premise.[6][7][8][9]
  • Director Shekhar Kapur took up several film projects after this film but ended up abandoning them. His assistant in this film, Satish Kaushik, who also acted in the film, took over some of the projects he had left unfinished including "Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja" (1993) and "Prem" (1995). This remains Kapur's last commercial Hindi film.[10][11]
  • Actor Aftab Shivdasani debuted as a child artist in this film.
  • Anil Kapoor's character in this film may have been inspired by Shammi Kapoor's character in "Brahmachari" (1968).[12]

    Song

  • Kaate Nahin Katate Yeh Din Yeh Raat - Sridevi's look for this song was inspired by her performance in "Har Kisi Ko Nahin Milta" ("Jaanbaaz", 1986) dressed in a chiffon saree.[13]
  • Kaate Nahin Katate Yeh Din Yeh Raat - The song was sampled in the Hindi film song "Behka Behka" ("Sooper Se Ooper", 2013) and recreated by Gourov - Roshin for the film "Force 2" (2016).[14][15]
  • Bijli Giraane Main Hoon Aayi Kahte Hain Mujhko Hawa Hawai - This song was recreated by Mikey McCleary for the film "Shaitan" (2011) and by Tanishq Bagchi for "Tumhari Sulu" (2017).[16][17]
  • Parody Song - Laxmikant - Pyarelal marked their 25 years in the film industry with this parody which consisted of a number of their compositions stringed together.[18]
  • Zindagi Ki Yahi Reet Hai - Sad - This version of the song sung by Kishore Kumar was only available in the audio release. In the film, this version was sung by Mohammed Aziz.
