• The title of this film and Amitabh Bachchan's character in it was inspired by a legendary real-life conman. Born Mithilesh Kumar Srivastava, the conman swindled many victims, evaded police for a long time and escaped from jail many times over a long career.[1]
• This was Tony Juneja's first film as a producer. His brother Tito was credited as the producer of the previous film produced by the Navjeevan Films banner - "Do Anjaane" (1976).[2]
• The title of this film inspired the title of the film "Raja Natwarlal" (2014), starring Emraan Hashmi.[3]

• Mere Paas Aao Mere Dosto - This was Amitabh Bachchan's first Hindi film song as a singer. He was reluctant to sing it but finally gave in to the repeated insistence of director Rakesh Kumar and music director Rajesh Roshan.[4]
• Mere Paas Aao Mere Dosto - This song was recreated by Shamir Tandon for the film "Satrangee Parachute" (2011). The recreated version was sung by Usha Uthup.[5]
• Tauba Tauba Kya Hoga - A cover version of this song was recorded for the film "Judgementall Hai Kya" (2019).[6]
