The film was based on the life of Tarannum Khan, a dancer in Mumbai's Deepa Bar. She came to be known as "crorepati bar dancer" after a customer at the bar showered her with lakhs of rupees one night. There were news report that this customer was, in fact, the Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralitharan. Incidentally, it was actor Aditya Pancholi, who played a lead role in the film, who had first taken Muralitharan to Deepa Bar.[1][2][3]
This was the debut film of its lead actress Ashima Sharma. Director S. Sachindra spotted her at a dance performance in Jodhpur where she ran a dance academy.[4]
An actress named Manisha slapped director S. Sachindra during the film's music launch claiming that the director had demanded "favours" for a role in the film. Her allegation was backed by actress Rakhi Sawant, who was Manisha's friend and had an acting role in the film. Sachindra denied the claim and said that it was just a publicity stunt.[5]
