Trivia

    Album

  • This was director Subodh Mukerji's debut film. The film was produced by his elder brother Sashadhar Mukerji.
  • It was probably during the making of this film that Nasir Husain met and fell in love with Margaret Francina Lewis. Husain wrote the film's screenplay and dialogues and Margaret was an assistant choreographer who also appeared on the screen in two songs in the film - "O Shivji Bihane Chale Palki" and "Nain Khoye Khoye Tere Dil Mein". Director Subodh Mukerji would compose shots using Husain and Margaret and their proximity soon led to love and later marriage. Margaret took on the name Ayesha after marriage.[MR14]
  • The writer Vempati Sadasivabrahmam loosely adapted this film to develop the script for the Telugu film "Intiguttu" (1958). The four main characters in the two films were essentially the same but the treatment of the Telugu film was different. N.T. Rama Rao played Dev Anand's titular character in the Telugu remake.[1]

    Song

  • Jeevan Ke Safar Mein Raahi (Male) - This song was originally supposed to have been sung by Hemant Kumar but music director S.D Burman changed his mind and brought in Kishore Kumar to sing it instead.[MR4]
  • Jeevan Ke Safar Mein Raahi (Male) - Music director Madan Mohan had a small acting role in this film. According to an unsubstantiated claim on Madan Mohan's website, this song is said to have been composed by him. It is another matter that the mukhda of the song is based on the traditional tune used for the national dance of Mexico, "Jarabe Tapatio", also known as "Baile Del Sombrero" or the "Mexican Hat Dance". Although released in 1955, the film was made before 1950, around the time Madan Mohan made his debut as a music director for "Ankhen" (1950).[2][3][MR4]
  • Dil Ki Umangen Hain Jawan - For a long time, it was believed that the singer Thakur credited in this song was actor Pran, on whom the song was filmed. Decades later, the December 2022 edition of the Listeners' Bulletin, published by Har Mandir Singh 'Hamraaz', identified the singer as Thakur Desai. Desai sang a few other Hindi film songs but hid his identity since he was employed with the police at the time. He remained uncredited in "Teriya Teriya Teriya Totari Teriya Do Jaan Ausne Jo" ("Chalis Baba Ek Chor", 1954). He used the name of his son, Vinod Desai, in "Beta Jag Janwaron Ka Mela" ("Anjali", 1957) and "O Mast Nazar Tu Chahe Agar" ("Kinare Kinare", 1963).[4][5][6][MR4]
  • Aankh Khulte Hi Tum Chhup Gaye Ho Kahan - Kaifi Azmi adapted the line "Abhi saanson ki khushboo hawaon mein hai / Abhi qadmon ki aahat fazaaon mein hai" in the first antara of this song to write "Uske daaman ki khushboo hawaon mein hai / Uske qadmon ki aahat fazaaon mein hai" for the Hindi film song "Dheere Dheere Machal Ae Dil-E-Beqarar" ("Anupama", 1966).[7]
  • Anari Anari Re (De Diya To Le Le Dil) - S.D. Burman had used the tune of this song earlier for the Bengali film song "Sundari Lo Sundari" ("Samar", 1950). His son R.D. Burman later adapted this tune for the song "Manchali O Manchali Kaun Si Hai Yeh Gali" ("Barsaat Ki Ek Raat", 1981). Incidentally, "Sundari Lo Sundari" was Kishore Kumar's first Bengali film song.[8][9]
