Trivia

    Album

  • This film was a blockbuster hit and a turning point in the careers of Mahesh Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Paresh Rawal.
  • This was writer Salim Khan's first solo work after Salim - Javed split in 1982.
  • While Salim Khan wrote the script of the film, it was director Mahesh Bhatt who had come up with the story idea.[1]
  • Sanjay Dutt was going through a particularly bad patch in the early 1980s. His drug abuse, the subsequent rehabilitation program he went through and a series of flop films had brought him to his career's lowest point. It was to help him get out of this rut that his friend and brother-in-law, actor Kumar Gaurav, decided to make this film, casting himself and Dutt as half-brothers. Gaurav's father, actor and producer Rajendra Kumar, warned him early on that Dutt's character was stronger and would likely resonate more with the audience. Kumar Gaurav went ahead anyway and his father's warning did eventually come true. This was the only film in which he was credited as a producer.[2]
  • This film was the first of a series of collaborations between Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt. It was followed by "Kabzaa" (1988), "Sadak" (1991), "Gumrah" (1993) and "Kartoos" (1999).[3][4][5][6]

    Song

  • Chitthi Aayi Hai - Pankaj Udhas not only sang this song but also appeared on screen for it. He apparently shot for the song during the day and performed concerts at night.
  • Chitthi Aayi Hai - Rajendra Kumar wasn't convinced that the unconventional lyrical structure of this song would work. However, he didn't insist on getting it changed since Anand Bakshi had Mahesh Bhatt on board with it.[7]
  • Chitthi Aayi Hai - The popularity of this song became a big draw for the film. It was especially well-received by the Indian diaspora.
