Trivia

    Album

  • Playwright R.G. Anand filed a suit alleging copyright infringement against Delux Films, the makers of this film. Anand had written a play titled "Hum Hindustani" in 1953, which had been staged in 1954. The play was popular and caught the attention of Delux Films' Mohan Segal who reached out to Anand to explore the possibility of adapting it for a film. After meeting with Anand and listening to the play's narration, Segal informed the playwright that the story wasn't suitable for a film adaptation. However, Anand alleged that Segal went ahead and made this film based on his play. The case reached the Supreme Court after it was dismissed by the District and High Courts. In what is seen as a landmark judgment in copyright law, the Supreme Court dismissed Anand's appeal citing that while the film may have used some ideas from the play, it was completely different from it as a whole. The 1978 judgment is considered an important precedent and has been cited in many copyright infringement cases since then.[1]
  • Shankar - Jaikishan developed their theme music for the film's opening credits into the Hindi film song "Jaoon Kahan Bataa Ae Dil" ("Chhoti Bahen", 1959).[2]
  • The paintings used in the film were by the artist Harkishan Lall. Lall taught art at the Polytechnic of Delhi and was among the early members of the Delhi Shilpi Chakra. The film's opening credits acknowledged him as follows - "Paintings of Ashok Banerji are the originals of Harkrishanlal". Ashok Banerji was the character played by Prabhu Dayal in the film.

    Song

  • Koi Mere Sapnon Mein Aaya - This song was shot but was later removed from the film.[MR1]
