Trivia

    Album

  • This was Ramesh Sharma's directorial debut. The film won him the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director.
  • Shashi Kapoor was so impressed by director Ramesh Sharma's narration of the story that he agreed to do the film without reading its script and with a signing amount of just Rs. 101. He accepted a very modest fee of Rs. 1 lakh since Sharma was on a tight budget for the film.[MR33]
  • The shooting for this film was scheduled to start in mid-1984. However, the health of Shashi Kapoor's wife Jennifer, who had been diagnosed with cancer, took a turn for the worse at that time. Kapoor had to be in London with her and wanted to back out of the film but director Ramesh Sharma told him that he'd wait for the actor to return to start shooting. Jennifer died in September 1984 but before the film's shooting could commence, Delhi, where the film was to be shot, was gripped by anti-Sikh riots. Shooting for the film eventually started in early 1985.[MR33]
  • There was a lot of fanfare around the screening of this film on Doordarshan in 1986. However, the screening was cancelled at the last moment allegedly because of the film's depiction of the nexus between media and politicians. The film was eventually shown on the TV channel in 1991 but with its riot scenes heavily censored.[1]
  • This was a songless film.
