• This film was in the works for a long time. Director Navdeep Singh had first approached Anushka Sharma for it. However, since the actress was busy at the time, he had gone ahead with Freida Pinto instead. It was reported in 2013 that the film would star Rajkumar Rao with Freida Pinto. For some reason, this casting did not work out and Anushka eventually came on board after being nudged by Anurag Kashyap. Since Navdeep Singh still did not have a producer at the time, Anushka decided to co-produce the film and waive her acting fees. This was the first film of Clean Slate Films, the banner founded by Anushka and her brother Karnesh Sharma. Neil Bhoopalam replaced Rajkumar Rao in the film.[1][2]
• Director Navdeep Singh had initially planned to shoot the film in Haryana. However, when the shooting was disrupted a few times by unruly crowds, he decided to shift the shoot to Rajasthan. The crew was able to cover up the change in location since most of the shooting was done at night.[3]
• The film album featured songs of debutant composers Bann, Ayush Shrestha, Savera Mehta, and Samira Koppikar. It was also the debut film of lyricist Abhiruchi Chand and singer Nayantara Bhatkal.
