• This film was director Farah Khan's adaptation of Subhash Ghai's hit film "Karz" (1980). The film's title itself was the title of the biggest hit song from "Karz". Riding on the success of this film, T-Series had produced an official remake of "Karz" the next year, titled "Karzzzz" (2008).[1][2]
• This was the debut film of actress Deepika Padukone.
• This film had generated a fair bit of controversy when actor Manoj Kumar had objected to the use of his body double in the film to lampoon him.[3]
• Director Farah Khan had engaged A.R. Rahman for this film and he had even composed a few tunes for it. He exited from the film because the label, T-Series, did not agree to his terms for royalty sharing.[4]
• A popular line in this film inspired the title of the film "Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai" (2012).[5]
• Farah Khan included a portrait of her mother Menka Irani in the scene in this film in which Shahrukh Khan's character follows Deepika Padukone's character into a building. The portrait, which was hung up on the corridor wall of the building, was a still of Menka Irani from the film "Bachpan" (1963).[6][7]
