Trivia

    Album

  • This film was a biopic of the eponymous athlete who served in the Indian army. The seven-time national steeplechase champion became a dacoit in the aftermath of a brutal assault on his mother over a family dispute. He was killed in a police encounter in 1981. The film was dedicated to Indian sportspersons who did not get their due. It listed the following "unsung heroes of Indian sports" before the end credits - Olympic hockey gold medalist Shankar Laxman, Olympic wrestling bronze medalist K.D. Jadhav, Asian Games gold medalist hurdler Sarwan Singh, and Asian Games shot put and discus gold medalist Parduman Singh.
  • Irrfan Khan won his only National Film Award for Best Actor for this film. Many years ago, Irrfan had expected to win the award for another film directed by the same director, Tigmanshu Dhulia - "Haasil" (2003). Unfortunately, the producer of "Haasil" (2003) had not nominated the film for the National Film Awards following a tiff with Dhulia.[1][2]
  • Irrfan Khan considered the film among his most physically and mentally challenging ones. The actor had to train under steeplechase coaches and broke his ankle while shooting for the film.[3]
  • On being complimented by his mentor Shekhar Kapur, director Tigmanshu Dhulia said that it was Kapur's "Bandit Queen" (1994) that had inspired him to make this film. Dhulia had worked as the casting director in "Bandit Queen" (1994).[4][5]

    Song

  • Kero Mama (Remix) - This was the re-created version of a song from the film "Arjun" (1985). It featured in the film but was not part of the music release. The original song was composed by R.D. Burman, written by Javed Akhtar, and sung by Shailendra Singh.[6]
