Trivia

    Album

  • The film was a "cinematic adaptation" of the life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore. Arunachalam is known for developing low-cost sanitary pads and for increasing awareness about menstrual hygiene practices. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2016.
  • The film's concept was credited to Twinkle Khanna. While she produced the film, her husband Akshay Kumar played the lead role in it. Twinkle Khanna had written a short story titled "The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land" in 2016 which, like the film, was based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham. The story was part of a collection of stories written by her titled "The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad".
  • The film's music was released in December 2017. It was certified in January 2018 and released in February 2018.
  • The makers of "Phullu" (2017) claimed that theirs was the first Indian film on menstrual hygiene. They criticised the makers of this film for staking a claim on this distinction for their film's publicity. They also accused the CBFC of being partial to this film by granting it a 'U/A' rating while "Phullu" (2017) was rated 'A'.[1][2]
  • The film was banned in Pakistan since its subject was considered taboo in their society. The decision to ban the film came under heavy criticism from Pakistani women.[3]
  • Akshay Kumar was not the first choice for the lead role in the film. At a screening of the film, the actor said that he had to beg Twinkle Khanna to be cast in it. At another event, Twinkle Khanna refused to reveal her first choice but said that it was director R. Balki who convinced her to cast Akshay.[4][5]
  • According to Akshay Kumar, he delivered an 11-minute speech for the scene at the UN in a single take.[6]
  • A writer named Ripu Daman Jaiswal accused the film of plagiarising scenes and dialogues from his script and filed a police complaint against its makers. Director R. Balki dismissed the allegation and said that his film was an "official biography" of Arunachalam Muruganantham. It appears that the police did not take any action on the complaint.[7]
  • Amitabh Bachchan made a cameo appearance in the film as himself.
  • Prernaa Arora of KriArj Entertainment was arrested in a case of cheating Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Films. KriArj had taken money from Pooja Films to finance this film and promised them the first claim on its post-release revenues in return. While doing so, KriArj concealed the fact that they had already taken money from other companies and made similar promises to them. KriArj failed to return Pooja Films' money causing them a loss of Rs. 31.6 crores. According to the police, Prernaa Arora used the money she took from her creditors "for buying properties and maintaining a lavish lifestyle". KriArj also had run-ins with filmmakers over other films - with Vashu Bhagnani over "Batti Gul Meter Chalu" (2018) and "Fanney Khan" (2018), with Abhishek Kapoor over "Kedarnath" (2018), and with John Abraham over "Parmanu" (2018).[8][9][10][11][12]

    Song

  • Aaj Se Teri Saari Galiyaan Meri Ho Gayin - Ayushmann Khurrana praised the song on social media and revealed that its tune had been considered for one of his films.[13]
