Trivia

    Album

  • The film told the story of the Third Battle of Panipat which took place in 1761 between the Marathas and the invading Afghan army of Ahmad Shah Abdali.
  • The portrayal of Maharaja Surajmal as a greedy ruler angered some groups in Rajasthan. Some protestors even burnt effigies of producer, director Ashutosh Gowariker. Fearing violence, some theatres in the state stopped showing the film. In response, the filmmakers edited out about 11 minutes of the film, re-certified the edited film, and released the new version all over the country a week after its original release.[1]
  • The depiction of Ahmad Shah Abdali in this film caused concerns in Afghanistan, the country he founded. The Afghan Embassy in India wrote a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs expressing apprehensions over the "insensitive/distorted depiction" of Abdali's character. This was followed by a meeting between Afghanistan's acting foreign minister Idrees Zaman and the Indian envoy to Kabul Vinay Kumar focussing on the contents of the film.[2]
