Trivia

    Album

  • This film was an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Bengali novel of the same title. The novel was also adapted for the Hindi films "Sankoch" (1976) and "Parineeta" (2005).[1][2]
  • This was the first of the two films produced by actor Ashok Kumar's banner, the second being "Samaj" (1954). Both films starred Ashok Kumar and had music composed by his cousin Arun Kumar Mukherjee.[3]
  • While shooting for this film, Meena Kumari came across the stills of "Do Bigha Zamin" (1953), the other film Bimal Roy was directing at the time. Impressed by the film's visuals, she expressed her interest in working in it. Since the casting of "Do Bigha Zamin" (1953) had already been done by then, the screenplay was modified to accommodate her. She reportedly worked in the film for free.[4][5]
