The film was almost entirely shot on the 2-year-old Myra Vishwakarma (aka Pihu) who played the titular role. Her real-life mother Prerna Sharma played her mother in the film but did not have much of a role. Sharma and her husband Rohit Vishwakarma agreed to let Myra work in the film since director Vinod Kapri was a close friend. The film was inspired by a news story Kapri had read.[1]
Director Vinod Kapri had a difficult time getting producers to finance this experimental film. Eventually, his friend Kirshan Kumar came on board as a producer. However, Kumar died of a heart attack during the film's making and Kapri had to reach out to others to complete it. Kapri acknowledged his friend's contribution in the film's opening.[2]
