Trivia

    Album

  • This was a cinematic adaptation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's life story. It was the first-ever feature film on a sitting prime minister of India. Another biopic featuring Paresh Rawal as Modi was announced at around the same time but was never made.[1]
  • A controversy broke out when the film's poster was published, crediting Javed Akhtar and Sameer, among others, as lyricists. When Akhtar and Sameer questioned the credits and asserted that they were not involved with the film, producer Sandip Ssingh clarified that songs written by them for other films had been recreated for this film. Akhtar was not satisfied with this explanation and accused the filmmakers of misleading the public.[2][3]
  • The producers' plan to release the film during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was met with objections from various political parties. They approached the Supreme Court (SC) for a stay on the film's release. However, the SC deferred the decision to the Election Commission. The film was initially scheduled for release on April 11 2019, the day polling was to start for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. That didn't happen since the Election Commission issued a broad order on April 10 that prohibited biopics like this film from being promoted or displayed while the Model Code of Conduct was in effect. The makers of the film submitted an appeal against this order to the SC but the court refused to intervene once again. Eventually, the filmmakers postponed the film to May 24, a day after the election results were to be announced.[4][5][6]
  • This was actor Suresh Oberoi's first film as a producer. It was also the first film in which he and his son Vivek Oberoi worked together. While Vivek played Narendra Modi in the film, Suresh Oberoi played his spiritual guru.

    Song

  • Hindustani - This was a recreated version of a song from the film "Dus" (1997). The original song was composed by Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy, written by Sameer, and sung by Udit Narayan, Shankar Mahadevan, Mahalakshmi Iyer, and Dominique Cerejo. Interestingly, Shankar Mahadevan's son Siddharth was one of the singers of the recreated version. The same song was also recreated for the film "Street Dancer 3D" (2020).[7][8]
  • Ishwar Allah - This was a recreated version of a song from the film "1947 Earth" (1999). The original song was composed by A.R. Rahman, written by Javed Akhtar, and sung by Sujatha Mohan and Anuradha Sriram.[9]
