Trivia

    Album

  • A.R. Rahman paid homage to one of his favourite musicians, Ustad Bismillah Khan, by using the shehnai in all the songs in this film. The film's story was based in Ustad's hometown Banaras.[1]
  • This was the first Hindi film of the Tamil film star Dhanush.
  • Aditi Rao Hydari had signed up for this film but was reported to have exited due to issues with her availability. The filmmakers were unhappy with what they believed was unprofessional behaviour on Aditi's part and replaced her with Swara Bhaskar. The misunderstanding was said to be resolved amicably eventually.[2]
  • The film was banned in Pakistan shortly before its scheduled release. The Pakistan Film Censor Board deemed controversial the film's theme of a love story between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl.[3]
  • Music director A.R. Rahman got top billing in the end credits as an acknowledgement of the importance of his music in the film.

    Song

  • Tu Mun Shudi - A.R. Rahman had initially recorded this song as an eighteen-minute composition. The film's director Anand L. Rai, along with lyricist Irshad Kamil, then figured out the portions they wanted for the film to put together the shorter, final version of the song.[4]
