- The film's plot used the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute as a backdrop. Its release was marred by controversies. Many Muslim groups objected to its release citing its allegedly inflammatory content. The film's producer Waseem Rizvi, who was also the chief of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board at the time, filed a police complaint stating that he had received calls threatening him to not release the film. The Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court refused to entertain pleas to stall the film's release. While the film did release as scheduled, many theatres in UP declined to show it fearing violence and disruptions.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
