Trivia

    Album

  • This was the last film directed by Raj Kapoor.
  • This was Randhir Kapoor's first film as a producer.
  • This film stirred up a controversy with two scenes in which actress Mandakini's breasts were visible - one involving the actress bathing in a stream wearing a transparent, wet saree and another that showed her breastfeeding a child. The censor board faced a lot of flak for not asking for these scenes to be removed and passing the film with a 'U' certificate.
  • Rajeev Kapoor and Divya Rana worked together in three films in the first three years of their career - their debut film "Ek Jaan Hain Hum" (1983), "Aasmaan" (1984) and this film.[1][2]

    Song

  • Tujhe Bulayen Yeh Meri Baahen - Her appearance in this song wearing a sheer, white, wet saree catapulted the debutant actress Mandakini to fame. This remains her most remembered film appearance. Born Yasmin Joseph, she was given the screen name Mandakini by Raj Kapoor. Mandakini happens to be one of the headstreams of the river Ganga, after which her character in the film was named.
  • Sun Sahiba Sun - Although the music for this song was credited to Ravindra Jain, it was actually composed many years ago by Shankar - Jaikishan for another Raj Kapoor movie, "Ajanta", that was shelved.
  • Sun Sahiba Sun - Hasrat Jaipuri, who wrote this song for the shelved film "Ajanta" in 1952, received an unsolicited payment for it from Raj Kapoor when it became a big hit in 1985 - more than 30 years after it was written! This despite the fact that the lyricist had already been paid for writing the song for Ajanta.[MR4]
  • Sun Sahiba Sun - Actress Silk Smitha asked music directors Raj - Koti to use the tune of this song for "Veera Viharam" (1987), a Telugu film produced by her. The result was a song titled "Raa Itu Raa" sung by Mano and Chithra.[3]
  • Ram Teri Ganga Maili Ho Gayi - Two lines from the mukhda of this song as well as the film's title and storyline were based on a real-life conversation that happened when Totapuri Maharaj of Rishikesh had visited Ramkrishna Paramhans in Calcutta.[MR12]
