Trivia

    Album

  • This was Arunaraje Patil's first film as an independent writer, producer and director. She had started her film-making career along with her ex-husband Vikas Desai. The husband-wife film-making duo of Desai and Patil were credited in their films as Aruna Vikas. Patil's life took a tragic turn after the couple's last film "Situm" (1982). Her daughter, Gaagi, was diagnosed with bone cancer and died in 1983 at the age of nine. The very next day after her death, Desai told Patil that he wanted a divorce. He had apparently been having an affair with Patil's best friend and wanted to get married to her. Patil went into depression and even attempted suicide. She eventually agreed for divorce and decided to move on. It was then that Patil formed a production company, Gaahimedia, which she named after her daughter Gaagi and son Hith, who, incidentally, had acted in "Situm" (1982). In fact, she was in the middle of her divorce proceedings when she wrote, produced and directed this film. A few years later, she finally got closure when she called Desai and told him that she no longer blamed him for what had happened.[1][2]
  • Aruna Raje had written this film with Smita Patil in mind. When the actress died in 1986, Raje, who was close to Patil and even shared her birthday, went into depression and the film was almost shelved. However, she later revived the film on her friends' advice and brought Hema Malini on board in Smita Patil's place. She made changes in the film's script to accommodate the casting change. Raje dedicated the film to Smita Patil.[3]
