Trivia

    Album

  • The film was originally titled "Womaniya", a word popularised by a song from Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs Of Wasseypur" (2012). However, the title had been registered by Pritish Nandy's production house. According to Anurag Kashyap, who was a co-producer in this film, Nandy's company had demanded a fee of Rs. 1 crore for the rights to the title. The makers of the film decided not to pay the "extortion sum" and changed its title. The film was based on the real-life story of sisters-in-law Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, considered the world's oldest sharpshooters. The Tomars made a cameo appearance in a song titled "Womaniya" in the film's climax.[1][2][3]
  • The film came under criticism for casting Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu to play the roles of women many years their elder. Many believed that it would have been more appropriate to cast senior actresses in the roles. Actress Neena Gupta stoked a debate on ageism in the film industry with a post on Twitter on the issue - "Yes i was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam humse kara lo bhai".[4]
  • Director Tushar Hiranandani decided to make a film on Chandro and Prakashi Tomar after he saw them on Aamir Khan's TV show "Satyamev Jayate". Footage from the show featuring them was used in the film's climax. Aamir Khan was acknowledged in the film's opening credits.[5]
  • Aamir Khan's sister Nikhat Khan made her acting debut in the film.
