Trivia

    Album

  • Amitabh Bachchan made his first on-screen appearance in this film. He had debuted earlier as the narrator of the film "Bhuvan Shome" (1969). Tinnu Anand had originally been signed for the role played by Amitabh. However, when Anand got the opportunity to work as filmmaker Satyajit Ray's assistant, he opted out of this film. According to Anand, at the request of their common friend, model Neena Singh, he also put in a word with K.A. Abbas for Amitabh as his replacement.[1][2]
  • The film told the story of the Satyagraha movement to liberate Goa from Portuguese occupation leading to the Indian government's annexation of Goa in 1961. According to the opening credits, the film was "based upon the real-life adventures of a band of revolutionary Satyagrahis in the Goa liberation struggle as recalled by Madhukar".
  • This was the first Hindi film of Malayalam film actor Madhu.
  • This was the debut Hindi film of Shahnaz, the sister of actor Jalal Agha and the daughter of the comedian Agha. Shahnaz got married to Tinnu Anand a few years later. Interestingly, the siblings worked together in another K.A. Abbas films after this - "The Naxalites (Naksalvadi)" (1980) - this time with Tinnu Anand as well.[3]
  • Amitabh Bachchan's character in the film was named Anwar Ali after the actor who performed one of the lead roles in it. Amitabh and Anwar Ali became good friends during the film's making and eventually became roommates. Amitabh's friendship with Ali connected him to his brother, actor Mehmood, who helped him land the lead role in "Bombay To Goa" (1972).[4]
