Trivia

    Album

  • This was an authorised biopic of actor Sanjay Dutt. Ranbir Kapoor played the titular role, Paresh Rawal played his father Sunil Dutt, Manisha Koirala played mother Nargis, Dia Mirza played Manyata Dutt, and Vicky Kaushal played a character which was a blend of a few real-life friends of Sanjay Dutt. Director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra had made two superhit films with Dutt previously, "Munna Bhai M.B.B.S." (2003) and its sequel "Lage Raho Munna Bhai" (2006).[1][2][3]
  • A.R. Rahman wasn't originally part of the film's soundtrack. Rajkumar Hirani reached out to the composer when co-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra expressed his dissatisfaction over a song. This song had already been filmed and it wasn't possible to re-shoot the sequence. Hirani believed that it required someone of Rahman's calibre to create a new song that could be used for the same sequence.[4]
  • Manisha Koirala was apprehensive about playing Nargis in the film. She believed that being a cancer survivor, it would be difficult for her to play the yesteryear actress who died of pancreatic cancer. She agreed to come on board eventually. She later said that "it required a lot of inner strength... to live through the pain, trauma and suffering again...". Koirala came forward to extend her support for Sanjay Dutt when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020.[5][6][7]
  • This was the debut Hindi film of music director Vikram Montrose.

    Song

  • Baba Bolta Hai Abhi Bas Ho Gaya - Sanjay Dutt made a cameo appearance as himself in this song. He appeared in it alongside Ranbir Kapoor who played him in the film. The song's title featured Dutt's nickname "Baba".
