- The film was based on the true-life story of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian who was convicted of terrorism and spying and sentenced to death in Pakistan in 1991. The film told the story of Sarabjit's incarceration and the efforts of his sister Dalbir Kaur to secure his release. Sarabjit died in a Lahore prison in 2013 after he was attacked by fellow inmates.
- The residents of Bhendi Bazar, Mumbai mistook the shooting of a scene for this film as real. They were disturbed by the proceedings since the scene depicted a crowd in Pakistan shouting anti-India slogans. The locals disrupted the shooting and filed a police complaint which led to the arrest of an executive producer. The situation was defused after director Omung Kumar and actor Darshan Kumar explained that it was a film shooting and that they had the necessary permissions for it.[1]
- This was the Hindi film debut of composers Shail - Pritesh consisting of Shail Hada and Pritesh Mehta. They composed music for another film - "Dil Jo Na Keh Saka" (2017). Shail made his solo debut in "Malaal" (2019) after Pritesh's death in 2019.[2][3]
