Album

• This film was based on the Hindi novel "Athara Sooraj Ke Paudhe" by Ramesh Bakshi.
• Bhuban - Hari, credited for the musical score of this film, was a collaboration of the Odiya musician Bhubaneswar Mishra and flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia. The duo composed songs for many Odiya films.
• This was filmmaker Awtar Krishna Kaul's only film. He died on July 10, 1974 in a swimming accident, shortly after the film's release. He was only 35 years old at the time. This film went on to win him the National Film Award for Best Hindi Film posthumously.
• Cinematographer A.K. Bir shot this film in Black & White on real trains and at the Victoria Terminus station. To keep the crowds in check, Bir would cover his hand-held camera at the location and take the cover off just before the scene was to be shot. It was on Bir's suggestion that Raakhee, who was a rising star at the time, reluctantly agreed not to wear makeup for this film. Bir won the National Film Award for Excellence in Cinematography (Black & White) for the film.
