Trivia

    Album

  • When the film was being made, it was speculated that it was inspired by Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement. News reports that the film was being shot in Anna Hazare's village Ralegan Siddhi strengthened these rumours. Kumar Vishwas, who had been part of the anti-corruption movement, said in an interview that the appearances of the key characters of the film were similar to leaders of the movement. According to him, Arjun Rampal's character seemed modelled on him, Ajay Devgan's on Arvind Kejriwal and Amitabh Bachchan's on Anna Hazare. Vishwas said in the interview that they would be keeping a close eye on the film. Filmmaker Prakash Jha denied these rumours and said that the film had nothing to do with Hazare's movement. He criticised the attempt by Hazare's team to interfere with the film and said that their politics had "clearly not worked out".[1][2]
  • Writer Pooja Varma published a book titled "Satyagraha - The Story Behind Revolution" that described the making of the film. The book was released a few weeks after the film's release.
  • A citizens' group called the Bhopal Citizens Forum objected to the makers of the film building a tar road and films sets on the premises of the 19th-century Benazir Palace. They claimed that the construction was depriving children of a playground and damaging the heritage site. The filmmaker clarified that they had secured the necessary permissions and that they would restore the ground to its original state after completing the film's shooting.[3]
  • Rajesh Mishra of Narayani Productions filed a petition claiming that he had registered the title of this film with the Indian Film and TV Producers Council (IFTPC). He sought to stay the film's release unless he was compensated. A representative of the IFTPC testified in the Bombay High Court that Jha had registered the title after Mishra's registration had lapsed. The court dismissed the petition and allowed the film to be released.[4]

    Song

  • Aiyo Ji (Hamri Atariya Pe Aaiyo Balam Ji) - This song was based on Begum Akhtar's popular dadra "Hamri Atariya Pe Aao". The dadra was also adapted by Vishal Bhardwaj for "Dedh Ishqiya" (2014).[5][6]
