• The film's title was derived from the names of its two lead actors - Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan. Their characters in the film were also similarly named - Dhanush played Danish and Amitabh's character was named Amitabh. Director Balki had offered the film to Shah Rukh Khan initially. He went with Dhanush after Shah Rukh turned down the offer.
• This was the debut Hindi film of Kamal Haasan's daughter Akshara. Her character in the film was also named Akshara. Her sister Shruti Haasan sang a song for the film.
• This was said to be the first Hindi film to be shot in Finland.[1]
• Amitabh Bachchan's character in the film could not make it as an actor because of his voice. This was inspired by real life. Before Amitabh became an actor, All India Radio had rejected his job application because they believed that his voice was unsuitable for radio.
• Dhanush's character in the film starts off as a bus conductor and goes on to become a superstar. This plotline was likely inspired by real life. Dhanush's father-in-law, Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth, used to be a bus conductor in Bangalore before becoming an actor.
• The film featured many prominent film personalities in cameo roles playing themselves. This included Rajkumar Hirani, Rekha, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Anurag Basu, Gauri Shinde, Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar, Rohit Shetty, Mahesh Bhatt, Boney Kapoor, and Ekta Kapoor.
• The film's music launch celebrated music director Ilaiyaraaja completing musical scores for 1000 films. There were some new reports that this was Ilaiyaraaja's 1000th film. However, director Balki clarified that this was not the case. Ilaiyaraaja's 1000th film was director Bala's "Thaarai Thappattai" (2016).[2]
