Trivia

    Album

  • This film was loosely adapted from the Hollywood comedy "Arthur" (1981). It was remade in Kannada as "Nee Thanda Kanike" (1985). Another Hindi film, "Tumsa Nahin Dekha" (2004), was also based on "Arthur" (1981).[1]
  • Amitabh Bachchan had covered his left hand with a handkerchief or kept it otherwise hidden while shooting for this film as well as for "Inquilaab" (1984). He had done so to cover up a visible injury on his hand at the time - the result of Diwali firecracker accident.[2][3]
  • This was the only film for which Bappi Lahiri won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. He was later awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

    Song

  • Jahan Char Yaar Mil Jaayen - This song used the tune of the Bangladeshi film song "Bondhu Tin Din Tor Barite Gelam" ("Koshai", 1980), sung by Runa Laila and composed by Alauddin Ali. The Runa Laila song itself was based on the tune of the non-film song "Sohag Chand Badani Dhani" (1965) by Nirmalendu Chowdhury.[4][5]
  • Jahan Char Yaar Mil Jaayen - Smita Patil made a cameo appearance in this song. Her scenes in this song were apparently from the unused footage of the film "Namak Halaal" (1982).[6]
  • Jahan Char Yaar Mil Jaayen - A recreated version of this song was used in a Dream 11 IPL ad that was first aired in 2021.
  • Mujhe Naulakha Manga De Re - Runa Rizvi adapted this song for her non-film song "Pyaar Ka Nasha" (2004).[7]
  • Mujhe Naulakha Manga De Re - The song featured a line which was used previously in the Hindi film song "Humko Nasha Ho Gaya" ("Munimji", 1972) - "Nasha sharab mein hota to naachti botal".[8]
  • Manzilen Apni Jagah Hain Raaste Apni Jagah - This film was perhaps the only instance of a male singer getting all the Filmfare Award nominations in a given year, that too for songs from the same film. It was for this song that Kishore Kumar finally won the Filmfare Award.
  • Inteha Ho Gayi Intezar Ki - The female vocal section in this song was adapted from the song "The Runner" (1979) by the pop trio The Three Degrees.[9][10]
  • De De Pyar De (Male) - Bappi Lahiri used the tune of the Bengali folk song "Allah Megh De" by Abbasuddin Ahmed for the hook line of this song. S.D. Burman had adapted the same song for "Allah Megh De Paani De" ("Guide", 1965).[11][12]
