  • This film was based on a real-life gun battle between some gangsters and the Mumbai police in 1991.
  • This film was followed by a prequel - "Shootout At Wadala" (2013).[1]
  • Sanjay Dutt's character in this film was based on Additional Commissioner of Police Aftab Ahmed Khan, who led the police team in the 1991 Lokhandwala Complex Shootout. Aftab Ahmed Khan appeared in this film in a cameo. He played the character of his boss at the time, Police Commissioner S. Ramamurthy, named Krishnamurthy in the film.[2]
  • This was the first film in which the theme music for the White Feather Films banner logo was based on the tune of the song "Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re" ("Kaante", 2002).[3]
