Trivia

    Album

  • This was the Hindi remake of the hit Tamil film "Singam" (2010) starring Suriya. The Tamil film was remade in various other languages including in Kannada as "Kempe Gowda" (2011). Prakash Raj reprised his role as the villain in "Singam" (2010) in this film.
  • The success of this film resulted in director Rohit Shetty making a sequel, "Singham Returns" (2014), and a spin-off, "Simmba" (2018). Ajay Devgan reprised his role in this film in "Singham Returns" (2014). "Simmba" (2018) featured Ranveer Singh in the lead role and had Ajay Devgan making a cameo appearance as the character he played in this film and its sequel.[1][2]
  • This film was in the news during its making when members of the Federation Of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) disrupted its shooting for non-payment of wages.[3]
  • The was Kajal Agarwal's first Hindi film in a lead role. Kajal had started her career as an actress in the film "Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na" (2004). Thereafter, she had made it big in Tamil and Telugu films. This was her first Hindi film after "Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na" (2004).[4]
  • Kannada organisations disrupted the screening of this film in various cities in Karnataka, including Bengaluru. They raised objections to a line in the film they perceived as an affront to Kannadigas. In the film, when Prakash Raj's character says "Ek phone par main hazaaron logon ko Karnataka border se la kar khada kar doonga", Ajay Devgan's character replies "Tum jaise kutton ke liye main hi kaafi hoon. Maharashtra se hazaaron log ki zaroorat nahin". The filmmakers then issued an apology and had this line removed from the screenings in the state.[5]
  • When Ajay Devgan's line in this film "Aata majhi satakli!" became very popular, director Rohit Shetty decided to use it as a hook line in a song in the sequel "Singham Returns" (2014).[6]
  • In August 2020, the American music group Black Eyed Peas released a song titled "Action" along with a music video that used deep fake technology. The video was a montage of action sequences from this film as well as a few others. The deep fake video replaced the heroes in these sequences with members of the Black Eyed Peas. In the sequence taken from this film, the group's frontman will.i.am replaced Ajay Devgan. The other Indian films in the sequence were the Telugu film "Maryada Ramanna" (2010), and the Tamil films "Enthiran" (2010) and "Aambala" (2015). The music video of "Action" was subsequently taken off YouTube because of a copyright claim.
  • Reliance Entertainment obtained a John Doe order from the Delhi High Court to prevent the online piracy of this film. The order was against unspecified copyright infringers and asked Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to ensure that they did not allow the distribution of unauthorised copies of the film. Armed with this order, Reliance got ISPs to block many websites including those that had legitimate users. This became the first Hindi film to take such drastic action against online piracy. It served as a legal precedent for future film releases. In the coming years, this became a common tactic employed by producers to curb piracy.[7][8]
