- This was a sequel to a hit film released in 2011. Both films were directed by Rohit Shetty and starred Ajay Devgn. The predecessor itself was a remake of the hit Tamil film "Singam" (2010) starring Suriya. The success of this series resulted in a spin-off, "Simmba" (2018), which featured Ranveer Singh in the lead role and had Ajay Devgan making a cameo appearance as the character he played in the first two films of the franchise.[1][2]
- A group called Hindu Janajagruti Samiti claimed that the film showed Hindus in poor light. An office-bearer of the group was quoted as saying "They have shown that actor Ajay Devgn, who plays the role of a police officer speaks of hitting the saint, while he is seen offering prayer at a mosque in uniform, and saluting a Muslim priest. This is going to create a wrong impression about the Hindu religion". The group threatened to disrupt the film's screening if the scene was not removed from it.[3]
- There were allegations that the makers of this film had bribed the CBFC chief Rakesh Kumar to get their film cleared in just three days despite the controversy surrounding it. The CBI recommended a case against the film's producers based on this charge.[4]
- In the action sequence in the film's climax, Ajay Devgn's character tells the character played by Dayanand Shetty, "Darwaza tod Daya". This was a reference to a popular line from the TV series "CID" which originally aired on the Sony Entertainment Television channel from 1998 to 2018. The line was regularly addressed to Dayanand Shetty's character in "CID".
