Trivia

    Album

  • This film was adapted from the American romantic comedy "It Happened One Night" (1934) starring Clark Gable. A few other Hindi films were also inspired by the same film - "Nadan" (1951), "Chori Chori" (1956), "Nau Do Gyarah" (1957), "Basant" (1960), and "Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin" (1991). Similar plots were used in other Indian films as well - "Chandhrodhayam" (1966) and "Kadhal Rojave" (2000) in Tamil, and "Hudugaata" (2007) in Kannada.[1][2][3][4][5]
  • The already rocky relationship between director Raj Khosla and actress Waheeda Rehman came to a head during the making of this film when Khosla asked the actress to wear a revealing costume for a scene. When she refused to do so, the furious director suspended the day's shoot. Dev Anand intervened later and convinced Khosla to carry on with Rehman wearing a conservative dress of her choice. Khosla had previously had disagreements with Rehman during the making of "C.I.D." (1956) and had even advised Guru Dutt against casting her in "Pyaasa" (1957). Their tiff resulted in them deciding to not work together again. When Dev Anand cast her in "Guide" (1965) and considered approaching Raj Khosla to direct it, Waheeda Rehman lobbied against him. The two made up eventually and worked together one last time in "Sunny" (1984).[6][7][8][9][10]

    Song

  • Hai Apna Dil Toh Aawara (Happy) - R.D. Burman, who assisted his father S.D. Burman for the film's music, played the prominent harmonica solos in this song.
  • Hai Apna Dil Toh Aawara (Happy) - This song inspired the title of a 2016 film directed by Monjoy Joy Mukerji, the son of actor Joy Mukerji.[11]
  • Hai Apna Dil Toh Aawara (Happy) - An exchange between Waheeda Rehman and Dev Anand's characters in the film made a reference to the singer of this song. In this exchange, Rehman's character suggested that the name of Dev Anand's character should have been Hemant Kumar instead of Prannath since he sang so well.
  • Nazar Ki Kataari Yeh Kaisi Chali - This song was shown as being shot for a film within this film. Raj Khosla made an uncredited cameo appearance as the director shooting this song.
