• The film was a biopic of Bal Thackeray, the founder of the Maharashtrian political party Shiv Sena. The film was released on January 25 2019, two days after Thackeray's 93rd birth anniversary. It was shot and released simultaneously in Hindi and Marathi. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut produced the film and wrote its story.
• The film "Tere Mere Sapne" (1971) created a controversy when it replaced the popular Marathi film "Songadya" (1971) running at the Kohinoor Theatre in Dadar, Mumbai. Dada Kondke, who had ventured into film production with "Songadya" (1971), approached Shiv Sena's Balasaheb Thackeray who then organised protests that forced the theatre to replace "Tere Mere Sapne" (1971) with Kondke's film. This incident was depicted in this film with some modifications.[1]
• South Indian actor Siddharth took to social media to criticise the film as propaganda glorifying a "Marathi bigot". He took offence to the line "Uthao lungi bajao pungi" delivered by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and called it "hate speech against South Indians".[2]
• This was the first Hindi film of the Marathi filmmaker Abhijit Panse.
