This film was an adaptation of a 2014 book of the same title by Sanjaya Baru, the media advisor and the chief spokesperson of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from May 2004 to August 2008.
The film was certified in December 2018 and released in January 2019. Its music was published in January 2019 as well.
The film's release was surrounded by controversy. Congress party members labelled the film as political propaganda after the Twitter handle of the BJP shared the film's trailer calling it a "riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years". Angered by what they considered mischaracterisation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Nehru-Gandhi family, workers of the Congress party protested against the film, vandalised theatres and disrupted its screening in some places.[1][2]
