Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on the real-life events surrounding the terrorist attack in Mumbai on November 26 2008 that left more than 150 people dead and many more injured. The attack was carried out by ten members of the Pakistan-based Islamic terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba.
  • Ferzad Jehani, the owner of Leopold Cafe, Mumbai, played himself in this film. He also helped director Ram Gopal Varma reconstruct the events of 26/11 for the film.[1]
  • When Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the time, visited the Taj Hotel a few days after the 26/11 attack, he was accompanied by his son Riteish Deshmukh and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma. Their presence in the CM's contingent raised a lot of eyebrows and led to speculations that they were planning to make a film based on the attack. Riteish and Varma were criticised by many for what was seen as insensitive behaviour so close to the tragedy. In the months leading up to the release of this film, Varma rationalised his visit to the Taj and said that he had no intention of making this film at the time of his visit.[2][3]
  • Nana Patekar played the role of Joint Police Commissioner of Mumbai Rakesh Maria who was given the responsibility of investigating the 26/11 attacks.
  • The film ended with the message "A humble request to rise in respect for the victims of 26/11".
