Trivia

    Album

  • The protagonist of this film played by Vidya Balan was named Silk. It was widely believed that the film was a biopic of the South Indian actress Silk Smitha. However, director Milan Luthria clarified that Silk Smitha was just one of the inspirations for the film. Vidya Balan's character in the film also drew for Silk's peers like Disco Shanti, Polyester Padmini, and Nylex Nalini. While assisting Mahesh Bhatt, Milan Luthria had worked with Silk Smitha in "Naaraaz" (1994), and with Disco Shanti in "Naajayaz" (1995).[1][2][3]
  • Ekta Kapoor had conceived the idea for this film and had asked Rajat Arora to write a script for it. Her initial plan was to make a small-budget film with a debutant director. However, when she asked Milan Luthria to take a look at the script, he insisted on making the film.[4]

    Song

  • Ooh La La - The mukhda of this song bore similarities with Bappi Lahiri's "Ui Amma Ui Amma" ("Mawaali", 1983). Saregama, the label that issued "Mawaali" (1983), sued the producers of this film, Balaji Telefilms, for copyright infringement and sought Rs. 100 crores in damages. Bappi Lahiri, who sang this song with Shreya Ghoshal, defended Vishal - Shekhar and Balaji Films and issued a statement that the two songs were independent and distinct. Bappi Lahiri himself may have adapted the mukhda of "Ui Amma Ui Amma" ("Mawaali", 1983) for the song "Kasam Se Kasam Se" ("Do Aankhen Barah Hath", 1997).[5][6][7]
