  • The film was certified and its music released in December 2015. It was released in theatres in January 2016.
  • The idea for this film went through many changes over several years. Vidhu Vinod Chopra wrote its first draft after reading the story of the murder case of the badminton star Syed Modi. However, nothing came out of it then. Chopra revived the script between 2000 and 2004 in collaboration with Abhijat Joshi for a Hollywood film. Titled "The Fifth Move", this film was to star Dustin Hoffman. Chopra had plans of approaching Anthony Hopkins also for it. The project failed to take off after one of the producers, Robert Newmyer, passed away. Chopra and Joshi reworked the script after that for this film. There were reports of the film being titled "Do" or "Ek Aur Ek Do" initially before it was given its final title. According to Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vidhu Vinod Chopra was so happy with his performance that he named the film after his character.[1][2][3][4][5]
  • The Disabled Rights Group led by activist Javed Abibi issued a statement condemning Bejoy Nambiar's characterisation of Amitabh Bachchan's role in the film. In an interview, Nambiar had been quoted as saying "Casting Mr. Bachchan, who has got such a strong persona, and limiting him in a wheelchair, was a big task for us to get used to". According Abibi, it was regressive to describe a disabled person as being "limited" in a wheelchair.[6]
  • Farhan Akhtar revealed during the launch of the film's trailer that he had opted out of "Raees" (2017) to avoid having to play a police officer in the two films in quick succession.[7][8]

  • Tere Bin - The tune of this song's mukhda bore resemblance with the Malayalam film song "Oru Naal" ("Oru Naal", 2012) composed by Afzal Yusuf and sung by Swetha Mohan and Srinivas.[9]
  • Khel Khel Mein - This was the Hindi film debut of the Delhi-based fusion band Advaita.
  • Atrangi Yaari - This song was not part of the film's original music release. It was released separately as a single. The song was used in the film's end credits.
