Trivia

    Album

  • Director Tigmanshu Dhulia dedicated the film to the memory of his friend, actor Irrfan Khan. The dedication read "In memory of my yaar". Dhulia had initially planned to cast Irrfan in the lead role and the actor was keen to work in the film as well. However, they later agreed that he would be too old to play the role and Vidyut Jammwal was brought onboard instead. Tigmanshu Dhulia and Irrfan Khan's friendship had started when both of them were studying at the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi. Dhulia directed Irrfan in four films, including "Paan Singh Tomar" (2012), for which the actor won his only National Film Award for Best Actor.[1][2]
  • This film was based on the French film "Les Lyonnais" (2011) directed by Olivier Marchal. The French film itself was inspired by the French book "Pour Une Poignee De Cerises" written by Edmond Vidal and Edgar Marie. The book was an autobiography of a French gangster active in the 1970s, Edmond Vidal.[3]
  • The film was a long time in the making. Tigmanshu Dhulia started making it after the release of "Bullett Raja" (2013) to counter the criticism he had received for it. The film was completed in 2016 but could not find any buyers for a long time. It was finally released directly on Zee5 in July 2020.[4][5]
