Trivia

    Album

  • This film was director S.R. Puttanna Kanagal's remake of his own Kannada film "Naagarahaavu" (1972). It was the celebrated filmmaker's only Hindi film. "Naagarahaavu" (1972) was adapted from three novels by the writer T.R. Subba Rao (Ta Ra Su) - "Naagarahaavu", "Ondu Gandu Eradu Hennu" and "Sarpa Mathsara". The Kannada film was also remade in Tamil as "Raja Nagam" (1974) and in Telugu as "Kode Nagu" (1974).
  • This was the only Hindi film of the Kannada film star Ambareesh. He played the same role in this film that he had in the Kannada original "Naagarahaavu" (1972).
  • Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh first met while working for this film. Although they eventually got married, their romance developed only later. In fact, Rishi Kapoor had a lover's tiff with his girlfriend at the time while shooting for this film, and had sought Neetu Singh's help in writing telegrams to win her back.[1]

    Song

  • O Hansini Meri Hansini - Shailendra Singh was originally supposed to sing this song. Despite Rishi Kapoor's insistence on retaining him, R.D. Burman had Kishore Kumar sing the song eventually.[MR9]
  • O Hansini Meri Hansini - The opening section of this song may have been inspired by Francis Lai's "Snow Frolic" composed for the Hollywood film "Love Story" (1970).[2]
  • Saanp Se Badhke Mera Zeher - This song was an adaptation of the song used in the same situation in the Kannada original - "Haavina Dwesha" ("Naagarahaavu", 1972). The Kannada song, composed by Vijaya Bhaskar and sung by S.P. Balasubramaniam, was itself based on "Sirtos Chaniotikos", composed by Mikis Theodorakis for the film "Zorba The Greek" (1964).[3][4]
