Apache Indian, born on May 11, 1967, is the stage name of ragga singer, Steve Kapur. Apache recorded his first single “Movie Over India” in 1990. It mixed ragga and bhangra styles of music and was hugely popular. In his first album “No Reservation” (1993), he and his cousins Simon and Diamond, introduced to the world the electronic, hybrid sound of ragamuffin/bhangramuffin.
Since “No Reservation”, he has cut “Make Way For The Indian” (1995), “Real People/Wild East” (1997), “Karma” (2000), “Time For Change” (2005) and “Sadhu-The Movement” (2007).
His popular numbers include “Boom Shack-A-Lak”, “Chok There”, “Arranged Marriage”, “Nuff Bites” and “Music Relief”. He has recorded with A.R. Rahman, Asha Bhosle, Sean Paul, Boy Geroge, Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys, Shaggy, UB40 and Maxi Priest among others. He has won a number of accolades including DJ Awards, UK Asian Music awards and Black Music Awards.
