Chaya Ganguly was a ghazal singer who also sang playback in Bollywood films. In 1978, she won the National Award for the Best Playback Singer Female for her rendition of the song “Aap Ki Yaad Aati Rahi” under the music composition of Jaidev in Muzzafar Ali’s debut movie “Gaman”.

She has also sung Bhaskar Chandavarkar’s composition “Chaandni Raat Bhar” in the 1994 film “Thoda Sa Roomani Ho Jaaye”. She has collaborated with other playback singers such as Anita Kanwar, Arun Joglekar, Deepa Lagoo, Banwari Taneja and Usha Rege. Mahadevi Verma, Maya Govind, Kamlesh Pandey and Makhdoom Mohiuddin have all penned lines that have been sung by her.
