Ustad Ghulam Ali is a Pakistani ghazal singer belonging to the Patiala gharana of Hindustani music. He was born on December 5, 1941 in Sialkot, Punjab. His father was a vocalist and sarangi player and taught Ghulam Ali the basics of music. Named after Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali became his disciple at the age of 15.

In a career that began with Radio Lahore in 1960, he has composed and sung ghazals, bhajans and Punjabi songs. While he always had a big following in Pakistan, his popularity in India skyrocketed when his ghazal “Chupke Chupke Raat Din” was used in the film “Nikaah” (1982).
Ghulam Ali primarily focuses on live concerts these days. To this day, “Chupke Chupke Raat Din”, along with “Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa” and “Awargi” remain his most popular songs.
