Harindranath Chattopadhyay was a poet, actor, lyricist and playback singer in the Hindi film industry.
Born on 2 April 1898, he, Sarojini Naidu’s younger brother, received the Padma Bhushan in 1973. He was married to Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, a socialist women’s leader. Two of the popular songs written by him in Bollywood are “My Heart Is Beating” from the 1975 movie “Julie” and “Rail Gaadi Rail Gaadi Chhuk Chuuk ” from the 1968 movie “Ashirwad”. In his most-remembered film “Bawarchi” (1972), he sang the song “Bhor Aayi Gaya Aandhiyara”. He has also rendered songs like “Jhingapore Taqur Taqur” and “Kanon Ki Ek Nagari Dekhi” in the movie “Ashirwad” (1968).
