Hasan Kamal is a lyricist and scriptwriter in the Hindi film industry. He is also a journalist and also a popular Urdu poet. In 1985 he won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for the songs in the movie “Aaj Ki Awaz” (1984).
He was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 1 January 1943. He is a graduate from Lucknow University whose career began with journalism in 1965.
Some of the songs written by him include “Sar Se Sarke” (“Silsila”, 1981), “Dil Ki Yeh Arzoo Thi” (“Nikaah”, 1982), “Awaaz Di Hai” (“Aitbaar”, 1985), “Nazar Ne Nazar Se” (“Sultanat”, 1986), “Humre Jeeara Ka” (“Parayaa Ghar”, 1989) and “Javeda Zindagi” (“Anwar”, 2006).
Music directors he has worked with are Shiv-Hari, Ravi, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri and Kalyanji-Anandji. His songs have been sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Bhupinder Singh, Salma Agha, Kavitha Krishnamurthy and Sadhana Sargam.
A few of the movies he has penned lines for include “Raja Paarvai” (1981), “Tawaif” (1985), “Salma” (1985), “Avam” (1987) and “Hatimtai” (1990).
