James is the stage name of Bangladeshi singer, guitarist and composer, Faruk Mahfuz Anam. Born in Nauga, he was raised in Chittagong and then moved to Dhaka to pursue his career in music. As the lead guitarist and vocalist of the band Nogor Baul (formerly known as Feelings), he was the pioneer of psychedelic rock in Bangladesh.
He was introduced to Bollywood by music director Pritam in the movie “Gangster” (2006) with the song “Bheegi Bheegi”. Despite the fact that James did not know Hindi and had to learn the words and pronunciation by rote, the song became a chart-buster. He went on to record a few other songs with Pritam.
His non-film albums include “Anonna” (1988), “Palabe Kothai” (1992), “Dukkhini Dukkho Korona” (1996), “Thik Achhe Bondhu” (1999), “Ami Tomader E Lok” (2003), “Jonota Express” (2005) and “Kal Jomuna” (2007).
