Manhar Udhas is a Bollywood playback singer who has sung over 300 songs in many languages including Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Oriya and Assamese. He is the elder brother of accomplished singer Pankaj Udhas and Nirmal Udhas. He, like his brother Pankaj, is known for singing ghazals. He is popular for his renditions of Shirdi Sai Baba devotional songs. He has over 60 albums to his credit.
Qualified as a Mechanical Engineer, he began his career in playback singing in 1969, lending his voice to the song “Aapse Hum To Bichde Hue” in the movie “Vishwas”. Soon after, he sang for Manoj Kumar’s “Purab Aur Paschim” (1970) and in the same year for “Preet Na Shamna” (1970). Movies he has contributed to in recent past include “Anmol” (2010), “Aafreen” (2005), “Hadh” (2001), “Jaanwar” (1999), “Jaan” (1996), “Trimurti” (1995), “Saajan Ka Ghar” (1994) and “Prem Shakti” (1994).
He is well-known for his chartbuster rendition of “Hum Tumhe Chahte Hai Aise” (“Qurbani”, 1980), “Har Kisiko Nahi Milta Yaha Pyar Zindagi Mein” (“Jaanbaaz”, 1986), “Ilu Ilu” (“Saudagar”, 1991) and “Tera Naam Liya” (“Ram Lakahn”, 1989).
